THE lure of exotic Asian cuisine has seen droves of hungry diners flocking to Bournemouth restaurant chain Koh Thai.

The first Koh Thai Tapas restaurant opened in Boscombe in late 2009 and soon became a fashionable night-spot.

Spurred on by this success, director Jay Hampton and business partners Andrew Lennox and Nick Billingham, pictured with Jay Hampton, replicated this formula of the Christchurch Road original.

The latest Koh Thai opened in December in the former Jimmy’s on Poole Hill, near The Triangle.

“We want it to be casual, warm and friendly, and to attract all age groups,” said Mr Hampton.

“Our success isn’t based on people getting drunk – that’s not what we are looking for.”

The Bournemouth dining area is two to three times larger than the Boscombe branch and the team have tried to “cosy it up”. They have again used low lighting, candles, big windows, and shades of amber and deep red.

Koh Thai is a funky, fun and vibrant restaurant that’s the perfect venue for a night out on the town. 24SEVEN can personally recommend the Triple Chocolate Martini £6 and the sizzling chilli seafood at £11, as a tasty weekend warmer.

According to Andrew Lennox, Koh Thai is establishing itself as an integral part of Bournemouth’s nightlife.

“We have linked up with club Priva, Smokin Aces and The Winchester pub. So there’s always somewhere to go after you’ve enjoyed a meal,” says Andrew.

The menu has Thai curries, salads and stir fries, and the team of around 30 includes mainly Thai chefs. With love in the air, Koh Thai are serving a selection of Valentine’s specials.

These romantic treats include giant king prawns. Also deep fried sea bass fillet, glazed in a hot sweet chilli sauce with a medley of Thai green peppercorns and toasted sweet holy basil leaves.

24SEVEN’S advice would be to book a table in advance, especially as weekends are proving exceptionally popular.
