THE Burgundy region of France is home to a great diversity of white wines, which range from crisp, minerally, unoaked Chablis, to delicate sparkling Crémant. Give one of the following top Burgundy whites a go, and you’ll soon be back for more.

Perle de Vigne, Crémant de Bourgogne, Louis Bouillot NV £8.99 Majestic

A top sparkler from a well known domaine at a great price currently at Majestic. Made in the same, traditional method as Champagne, this sparkler shows off lovely toasty aromas and a fresh, yet full mouth-feel. Ideal with Parmigiano-Reggiano nibbles.

White Burgundy 2010 £7.99 M&S

A great entry-level, completely unoaked white Burgundy made from, you guessed it, 100% Chardonnay. Bright and utterly refreshing, this wine has been left on its lees during the winter months to develop a bit of complexity in the bottle. Full of zesty citrus and stone fruit flavours and a great burst of balancing, fresh acidity on the finish.

Chablis, Domaine William Fèvre 2009 £13.95 The Wine Society

2009 was a vintage that grabbed all the headlines for the red side of Burgundy, but it also produced some excellent forward whites that are drinking very well already. This Chablis from legendary producer William Fèvre is not exception. Full of punchy green fruit and citrus flavours backed up with its hallmark stony and mineral laden backbone, this wine also shows a great ripeness that is not often seen with youthful Chablis.

Saint Aubin En Remilly, Saint Aubin 1er Cru, Domaine Hubert Lamy 2008 £36.60 bbr.com

Often touted as Burgundy’s best value region, the appellation of Saint Aubin border both Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet – arguably the best of the best for Chardonnay based white wines, yet these wines of Saint Aubin can cost a fraction of the price of their costlier neighbours.

This offering from Hubert Lamy certainly isn’t on the cheap side, however you truly get for what you pay, and that is a beautifully elegant and expressive wine showing a great complexity of fruit and structure.

A stylish wine like this warrants a top food match, so serve this alongside a Parma ham wrapped chicken breast and creamy, garlic mash for a real treat.
