IF you care about these things you'll probably already know that our two local Michelin star restaurants retained their honours in the 2011 Michelin guide.

Sienna in Dorchester and the Terrace at Montagu Arms, Beaulieu, both retained their single stars. Sienna is one of the smallest restaurants in the guide, with just 15 seats.

You might not have looked at the less flashy but just as prestigous Bib Gourmmand list though (awarded for excellent food at moderate prices) so you might have missed the news that the Bull Inn at Wimborne St Giles is a new addition to the Bib Gourmand list this year.

Mark Thornton quit London four years ago when he bought The Anchor at Shapwick, near Badbury Rings.

The Bull is his second pub and was refurbished and reopened in November 2009.

Under head chef Matt Davey, who previously worked at The Museum Inn at Farnham, it strives to offer good quality, value for money dining.

Mr Thornton said: “I’m very happy with the Bib Gourmand. If you start jumping through hoops and trying to get Michelin stars, it does cost a lot of money. Food should be approachable."

Our lucky reviewers have eaten at all three of said restaurants, so to find out what we thought, follow the links below.

Or, why not tell us what you think of the Michelin Guide? Do you care? Would you avoid a restaurant with a star or make a beeline for it?

For those who don't mind a drive, by the way, the nearest new star is at the Black Rat in Winchester.

I'm going there for lunch on Sunday (not on expenses, before you say it!), so I'll let you know what it's like!
