EVERY time I visit my dentist in Wimborne I pass the Asiana, and each time I think I really must give it a try.

It always looks clean, bright and inviting, with none of those lingering curry smells that can sometimes hover around an Indian restaurant.

So after two weeks on a diet of salads, I decided it was time.

If you’re going to cheat on a diet it’s got to be “worth the calories” and with a curry you can’t usually go far wrong.

My order was taken quickly and efficiently by a charming and helpful man, and was on my doorstep well within the promised half an hour.

Everything was hot and well wrapped, and the containers even had re-usable plastic lids, meaning the inevitable leftovers could be stored for another meal the following day.

The vast menu had given us plenty of choice but in the end we went for a safe chicken korma for my husband, a vegetable Malayan for me (cooked with pineapple and banana) and a Mixed Vegetable Biryani to share.

Everything tasted freshly prepared, with a slight bite to the vegetables – nothing mushy or pre-cooked about them.

My husband was delighted with his korma – plenty of huge, tender chunks of chicken and a thick, creamy sauce, while my vegetable Malayan was pure heaven.

The flavours were quite different from the regular vegetable curry which came as a side dish to the biryani – wonderfully aromatic and spicy, not too hot, and with the sudden surprise of banana or pineapple adding a delicious sweet-and-sour dimension.

The biryani was huge, plenty for the two of us, with lots left over for the next day, and it was topped by hard-boiled eggs – a nice touch.

We’d also ordered two papadoms, and five arrived as a bonus, along with a small bag of onion and tomato.

It was an outstandlingly delicious feast and at only £17.75 a definite step up from your usual curry takeaway.

Worth the calories? Oh yes.
