INDIAN cook Sarah Ali Choudhury is certainly flavour of the month at the moment. She has been popping up at food festivals and demo kitchens around Dorset and now she is set to star in a new reality TV show.

The mother of four and founder of Easy Curry, was born in Bournemouth in 1977, where her parents used to own The New Delhi before moving to the Taj Mahal in Bridport where Sarah was recognised as the youngest Asian female to manage an Indian restaurant at the age of 20.

She tells Taste: “After spending most of my life in the Indian food business and now as a mother of four, I understand the importance of being able to create delicious and healthy meals as quickly and easily as possible.

“I have an abundance of food knowledge and skills with a desire to share this with people who are passionate about food. I understand that time is precious, meals need to be prepared quickly and easily and yet they need to taste incredible and that is what I am about!”

Sarah is the face behind Hey Mummy TV creating YouTube cookery videos and is now launching after school cookery classes in association with the Tesco Eat Happy Project and The Children’s Food Trust.

Earlier this week she hosted the first of a series of cookery demonstrations and workshops at the Purewell Electrical Cookery Theatre in Christchurch.

And if all this wasn’t enough, she is currently undergoing plans to set up the Easy Curry Cookery School.

Here is one of Sarah’s favourite recipes to whet your appetite.

Tomato Prawn Fry

250g prawns

10 small or cherry tomatoes (chopped into quarters)

1 tbsp rapeseed oil

1 finely chopped onion

4 cloves grated garlic

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp black mustard seeds

1/4 spn tumeric powder

1/2 tsp ground coriander

1 heaped tsp curry powder

Heat a frying pan and pour in the oil, allow the oil to heat up. When hot, add the mustard seeds until they pop. Then add the grated garlic, the onion and the salt and gently fry for 4-5 minutes. Add the turmeric, coriander, curry powder and stir well then add 2 tbsp water. Allow the spices to cook for about 4-5 on a low-medium heat. Add the prawns and stir well.

Then add the tomatoes and cook on a medium-high gas for about 3-4 mins. Then turn it to a slow gas for 5 mins or until the sauce is thickened.

Serve and enjoy!

If you “like a bit of spice” add some dried chilli flakes with the mustard seeds. This can be eaten on its own or as a salad and also makes a great healthy wrap or jacket potato filling.
