IF you’re weary of the Asian fusion food fad and crave no nonsense, traditional Indian curry, then the Westbourne Tandoori is a safe bet.

You always know what you’re going to get. Trust me. We have been going there for around 18 years.

There was one blip a few years ago when they experimented with what tasted like a cheaper chicken, but they listened to their customers and were soon back on track.

So, on an unseasonably chilly evening the other week, we decided to warm our cockles with our usual takeaway order.

For starters we ordered sag aloo – it has just the right amount of zing with chunks of potato coated in spinach and onion and a couple of juicy tomatoes.

For our main course we ordered butter chicken – one of the chef’s specials.

I defy anyone to find a place that does a better version.

Large succulent chunks of barbecued chicken are cooked in fresh cream and garnished with almonds and pistachio nuts and served in a rich butter sauce.

As usual this was delicious, creamy and had just the right amount of spice – but definitely not for the calorie conscious!

My other half’s chicken madras also had just the right amount of heat – just enough chilli powder without making you sweat.

We then mopped up all remaining sauce with a plain naan – wholewheat bread freshly baked in the tandoor oven. Perfect. As I’ve said before, the Westbourne Tandoori is one of the most established Indian restaurants in Bournemouth for a good reason.

The service is always excellent too.
