IF there was a wall of fame of people alive today connected with Bournemouth, who would you nominate?

That’s the question posed by Councillor Rod Cooper.

He, with his wife Elaine, arranged and financed the erection of eight black granite plaques on the outside wall of the Pavilion that marked eight men and women who made a major contribution to the founding of the town.

Now he is mulling over the possibility of creating another wall – that he would pay for himself – marking famous people, or perhaps, infamous people linked to Bournemouth.

Those now dead with links to are legion. They might include, for example, boxing world champ Freddie Mills, Lark Rise to Candleford author Flora Thompson, art connoisseur and the spy Sir Anthony Blunt, or Olympic gold medallist Charles Bennett, comic actor Tony Hancock and Charles Gray, the actor who play Blofeld in Diamonds are Forever.

But who would you include in the list of living people who might deserve a place on a wall of fame (or notoriety) should one be erected?

“They would not necessarily have to be inspiring but they would have to be interesting,” said Cllr Cooper, who suggested the list could include people such as chimpanzee expert Dr Jane Goodall.

Or how about actor Christian Bale, who lived in Bournemouth as a boy.

Or conductor Gareth Malone, who went to Bournemouth School?
