HONOURARY directorate of Wimborne Town Football Club Ken Holloway has died at the age of 94.

Born in Gillingham, the Holloway family moved to Wimborne shortly after, where Ken went to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School on the old site in King Street and went on to become head boy.

After leaving education, he joined the Civil Service Air Ministry and war was declared on his 18th birthday on 3rd September 1939.

In early 1940 he had a lucky escape when a bomb dropped and exploded next door to where he was staying. He was blown out of bed but fortunately suffered only cuts and bruises. In 1941 he was called up to the Army, training in Aldershot before joining the West Yorkshire Brigade stationed in Kent before being based in various places overseas until he was discharged in 1947.

Ken met his future wife, Joan, who was also in the army, based in Virginia Water in Surrey and they married later the same year in Buckinghamshire.

The couple went on to celebrate 68 years together and welcomed two sons along the way, Richard and Simon, who sadly died a few years ago.

He continued to work in the civil service, in the Air Ministry, the War Office and in the Ministry of Defence at home and in Singapore until he retired.

Ken and Joan moved to the Wimborne area together for their retirement, where Ken had a keen interest in sport and got involved with Wimborne Town Football Club. He became secretary of the club and was able to witness the club's historical victory in 1992 when Wimborne won the FA Vase at Wembley. The main stand at the Cuthbury ground was renamed the Ken Holloway and Ron Dinmore stand 10 years ago in recognition of the two huge supporters of the club's work. Ken was went on to be appointed as an honorary director of the club five years ago.

Ken was also an avid stamp collector, a member of the Wimborne-Ochsenfurt Twinning Association and the Wimborne-Valognes Twinning Association.

He showed his support to Wimborne in Bloom and sponsored the under 18s race in the annual Minster Pancake Race.

Due to ill-health he and wife, Joan, moved to Guildford earlier this year to be closer to son, Richard and his family, before Ken died on October 29.
