THE memory of a much-loved son, brother, nephew and grandson will live on next month during a charity football match in Poole.

Kaine Smith, who fought for survival from the age of three weeks, passed away peacefully at Julia’s House Children’s Hospice on May 23, just before his 12th birthday.

As a baby Kaine battled meningitis and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 10 months.

His mum Kelly, who lives in Poole, was Kaine’s full-time carer.

She told the Daily Echo: “Kaine had around six operations throughout his life and also developed epilepsy. But he always smiled through it all; we used to call him our little fighter.”

Kaine finally lost his fight for life at the Poole hospice after contracting a virus and suffering renal failure.

Now his aunt and uncle; Emma and Arron Fox are organising a charity football match on Sunday, September 15 to raise funds for Julia’s House.

Emma said: “The charity is very close to our hearts. Staff and helpers at the hospice couldn’t have done more to help our family and we would like to give something back. All proceeds will go to Julia’s House.”

The match will be played at Poole Town’s ground with gates opening at 10am and kick-off at 10.30am.

Admission costs £3 for adults and 50p for under-16s.

There will be face painting, a cupcake stall, sweet stall and games.

Dorset Troopers will make an appearance and a special guest will present the cup to the winning team.

A service to celebrate Kaine’s life was held at St James’ Church, Poole on June 3, followed by a private burial.

He is survived by his mum, dad Andy and the couple’s four other children; Angel, Kyle, AJ and Mercedez, as well as Kaine’s grandparents; Jan and Del and Anne and Michael.
