Jenny's Week: Winter Salad – a contradiction in terms, surely?

Posted on 10:20am Saturday 13th March 2010

I admit it. I have been know to be somewhat contemptuous about the idea of a “Winter Salad”. You know the sort of thing I mean – it’s salad, but yet not salad, because it’s (in the large part) warm.

The Friday Recipe Round-Up: breakfast with mother

Posted on 12:20pm Friday 12th March 2010

The most memorable breakfast I ever had was in California. Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, to be precise. On the advice of the very tactiel waitress, I ordered raspberry french toast ("they're intense", she said....) She wasn't lying. If I'd been diabetic I'd have been in a coma by the time I'd eaten half. French toast, sandwiched together with raspberries, smothered in maple syrup and icing sugar and served with a mountain of cream.

Dinner with friends... keep it simple, keep it cheap

Jenny's week: A tribute to red peppers, bacon and cheese

Posted on 1:44pm Tuesday 23rd February 2010

The more classic title for this piece would be “Bacon & Pepper Lasagne”, but it just doesn’t do the dish justice. I suppose it could also easily be entitled "the best Lasagne you will ever eat" and if you like the ingredients, you just so HAVE to make it - I can't bear the fact that everyone will miss out on its gorgeousness otherwise!

Posted on 12:00pm Friday 19th February 2010

Yes, that says monkey bread. Never heard of it? Then read on, food friends. It's Homer Simpson-tastic...

I had to report back to you on my Haggis experience. You see, up until this Saturday last, I was a Haggis virgin. Yes, folks, I'd managed to reach 50 years old without having tasted the "King of Puddings, the Haggis".
