“Do you see that bird, over there?” When Rabbit has a cunning plan to kidnap Roo, Kanga must be persuaded to take her eyes off Roo for just a moment. This is not easy: Kanga NEVER takes her eyes off Roo, not even to listen to Pooh’s poetry. But finally, she does, to see whether there is a blackbird, or a starling, in the tree.

You know it’s been an unusually action-packed Easter Holiday when you wake at dawn on Sunday morning to find two small, worried faces nose-to-nose with you.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked my fellow mad breastfeeders to tell me what they thought made us all breastfeed for over a year. I got such a wonderful response! A condensed version of what everyone said is HERE at GNM Parents.

My eldest son goes to Portchester School. It was the only secondary school that had the space to take him when we registered in September, and as he's a resilient and sensible boy, I ignored friends' advice to "Oh, NO! You have to get him into a private school!" I sent him off to Portchester, and crossed my fingers.

It's Carnival weekend in Trinidad, peeps! This IS a big deal, and yes it IS the Best Party On Earth. I know people who are paying thousands of pounds to get on a plane, arrive on Monday morning, party till Wednesday morning, and then get back on a plane here.

I’ve been sunning myself in warmer climes, my fans! Did you miss me? I took my youngest son, who has been so homesick, and we attended a wedding and got hugged by grandmas and hiked sweatily in the beautiful rainforest of Brasso Seco.

Wherever I’ve been in the world, people have complained about the education system. It’s never right, being “backward, overly academic, not academic enough, stifling to creativity, dull for the gifted, impossible for the challenged, stamping out originality” or “beginning too late” or “too early”, depending upon who you talk to.

It’s dark outside, though it’s still early in the afternoon. This is the time of year I was thinking of when I said, “Yes, maybe we’ll get TV when we move. We’ll see.”

It’s coooold out there, and there’s ice on the roads. Some of us complain bitterly that the icy roads and pavements has to be someone’s fault, and pontificate at length.

When we were first making plans to move to England, one burning question the boys kept asking was, “What about Christmas?”

We’re Tropical Creatures, accustomed to warm days and nights all year, and the sun rising and setting at six. Getting used to the long days of English August was fun for us, with many late night discussions on whether we can stay up and WHY NOT if the sun is up?

One of the best things about Christmas is all of the tiny nephews and nieces and cousins and friends we get to visit, and have over. They are a joy, their Christmas excitement is contagious, and they confirm for me that I'm all done having babies. I am posting a piece here this week that I've posted elsewhere before, which is naughty, but with Christmas descending upon us here I haven't the brain cells to make any sense otherwise. (Too much fudge? Too much wine? Who knows?) Merry Christmas all!
