January has been a really mild month. I keep expecting to wake up to a really hard frost but this doesn't seem to be happening, hence the grass and the weeds are still merrily growing.

The beginning of November bought rain, which was most welcome for the plants and then continued with the lovely warmth we have been enjoying this autumn.

Saturday took me away to London for a conference, hot and noisy, so when I returned on Sunday afternoon, after forty winks on the settee I was out in the garden, just sitting and looking at my vegetables.

The solstice on Tuesday, brought with it the first day of summer. We seem to be experiencing April showers, albeit warmer but we asked for rain and the crops certainly needed it.

I didn't mind the heavy showers during my visit this week to the beautiful rose garden at Mottisfont Abbey near Romsey because I knew it's just what the garden doctor ordered.

When I was a child, I used to love visiting garden centres with my Nan, who had incredible green fingers. Since moving to my current garden, I have started to grow vegetables. I am now in my third year and loving the whole experience from plot to plate. One thing I know I have definitely inherited from her, is her love of gardening, which I hope to share with you.
