THERE is still no set opening date for what will be one of the largest Greggs in the country, with the bakery saying it will be ‘in the next few weeks’.

Plans for an additional Greggs sign for the new store at the Wessex Gate Retail Park have now been approved by BCP Council.

As reported, these plans were lodged in February.

At the time, the national bakery told the Daily Echo the store would open ‘in the next few weeks’.

Now, nearly two months later, the spokesperson for the business has issued the same statement when previously asked when the store would open.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Wessex Gate Retail Park in Poole within the next few weeks.

“We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.”

The chain, famous for its meat and vegan sausage rolls as well as its steak bakes, is set to move into the former Carphone Warehouse unit, which has been empty since 2020.

Plans for Greggs to move in were approved by the council in October 2022.

When the branch opens, it could be one of the largest Greggs stores in the UK, with around 285 square metres of space.
