A POPULAR pancake race returned to Wimborne on Shrove Tuesday.

Armed with their frying pans and pancakes, participants made their way around The Minster Church of St. Cuthgurga, aiming for the quickest lap time possible.

Despite the race being brought inside due to wet weather, all involved still had a ‘flipping’ good time.

More than 100 people had signed up to this year’s race, from school children and toddler groups to adult runners and wheelchair users from Streets Meadow care home.

The first race started at 11am as the ‘Pancake Bell’ was tolled.

The adult race winner was Matthew James who ran round in 11.27 seconds, seeing him gifted the John Loader Memorial Trophy.

The wheelchair race winner was Irene from Streets Meadow, who won a large sack of wild bird seed for the home, donated by the Wimborne Pet Shop.

A collection taken on the day for Minster funds raised more than £170.

Anthony Oliver MBE from Wimborne Minster has thanked everyone who supported this year's event.
