Hundreds of fans meet popstar Olly Murs at Castlepoint book signing

The 28-year-old singer, who shot to fame after appearing on The X Factor in 2009, met 400 of his most passionate supporters at Waterstones in Castlepoint, many of whom had queued for hours to meet him.

Each of the fans had already waited at the bookshop last weekend to get a wristband for the book signing.

Leah Stroud, 13, Georgina Kinge, 14, and Louise Williams, 12, even had the chance to meet the pop star the previous night as they camped out to be the first in the queue.

“He came out to see us at about 11pm,” said Leah.

“We were in tears. Honestly, I cried so much and I couldn’t talk. It was really amazing – it’s been so worth it. He told us to go home but we didn’t.”

The girls, who also camped out overnight to get their wristbands on Sunday, left in tears after meeting Murs.

“He was so lovely,” said Georgina, who lives in Poole.

Alison Ramplee wept after her mum Sandra Perry, 54, who suffers from Pick’s disease, had the chance to meet her favourite star.

Pick’s disease is a rare and permanent form of dementia.

Mrs Ramplee said she queued for 15 hours to get a wristband for her mum, who has loved Murs since he first appeared on television.

“It was so worth it,” she said afterwards.

“Every time he comes on telly she recognises him and he makes her happy.

“I just wanted to see her smile when she saw him. It was so worth the queuing – I’m so pleased I had the chance to do this for my special mum.”

Mrs Perry, who lives at home with her husband and son in Southbourne, was diagnosed in May 2011.

For super-fan Janet Davies, 51, of Poole, it was a chance to meet her idol.

“I’ve been obsessed from the minute I saw him on TV,” she said.

“We waited from 7.30pm until 10.30am to get our wristbands, but it was so worth it.

“I’ve seen him perform at the BIC before, but we’ve already booked tickets for him next year. We’re so excited about it.”
