SCREAMING teenagers signalled the onset of Ollymania as eager fans queued through the night for a chance to see Olly Murs this later week.

Around 200 youngsters set up camp outside Waterstones at Castlepoint on Saturday night to be first to buy a special wristband which will entitle them to meet the star at his book signing there on Friday.

They were later joined by others on Sunday morning.

All 400 wristbands went inside a couple of hours.

At the head of the queue were Georgina Kinge, 14, of Poole and her pal Leah Stroud, 13 of Wallisdown. Leah’s dad, Dave, kept an eye on the pair all though the night.

He said: “They were determined to be first in the queue and I was glad to be able to help them.

“I sat in the car nearby so I was able to watch out for them.”

Leah said: “We are bit a cold but it wasn’t too bad. It will all be worth it to see Olly on Friday. We really like his music and he seems like a really nice guy.”

Leah, Georgina and all the other determined teenagers kept warm through the night with blankets, duvets and fleeces and flasks of hot drinks.

Leah said: “I am really grateful to my dad for staying up all night with us. He’s great!”

Essex boy Murs rose to fame after finishing as runner-up in the sixth series of the X Factor.

Manager of the Waterstones store, David Lund, said: “Everyone has been very well behaved and the atmosphere was fantastic. Some people have queued for 24 hours. The interest in the book signing has been phenomenal. This is the main Olly Murs event for the whole of the south of England.”

Friday’s signing is an all-wristband affair. No-one else will be allowed in.

"Essex boy Murs rose to fame after finishing as runner-up in the sixth series of the X Factor."

With this in mind, I'm sure this gentleman deserves the plaudits and admiration he's in receipt of. A future national treasure, no doubts.

What a great dad, watching over the girls all night and good on the girls for being so grateful. They will always remember their little adventure; not quite so impressive I know, but I remember queuing with my young daughter at Waterstones for the Jacqueline Wilson signing for about 6 hours until almost midnight - it was great fun and not forgotten.

Wow - imagine what it would have been like if someone famous was coming to Waterstones to do a book signing.
