IT'S hard to believe it's been 25 years since Dirty Dancing first thrust its way on to our cinema screens.

The low-budget American film was a runaway success and earned a special place in the hearts of a whole generation of teenagers, who were captivated by Johnny and Baby's risque romance.

Today its success lives on with a hugely successful stage adaptation on the West End and this - a show that bills itself as a tribute to the greatest movie soundtrack of all time.

The cast of eight performers did their best to live up to that billing but, for me, fell sadly short. The problem is if you are going to pay tribute to something as iconic and as cherished as Dirty Dancing you've got to do it properly, and this just didn't quite hit the mark.

The cast were decent, if not spectacular singers, and got the crowd going with their renditions of songs including Time of My Life, Do You Love Me and Be My Baby.

But strangely, they also included several songs that were nothing to do with Dirty Dancing and the accompanying choreography was basic and uninspiring.

There was plenty of audience participation, which was generally well-received and a good number of people were inspired to dance in the aisles. But did I have the Time of My Life? Sadly not.
