WITH Phil Daniels and Keith Allen set to star in a film about how he tricked the music industry, The Alarm singer Mike Peters plays the O2 Academy Bournemouth on February 28 as part of the Vinyl tour.

With more than 15 top 40 UK singles and some five million album sales along the way, Mike’s musical journey has seen him sing with some of history’s greatest performers such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Bono.

He has also taken his trusty acoustic guitar to some of the world’s highest elevations performing at The Highest Ever Concert On Land at 18,500 feet on Mt Everest in 2007 and, more recently, at 19,380 feet at the summit of Kilimanjaro.

In 2004, The Alarm released the controversial 45 RPM single under the pseudonym The Poppy Fields and scored an unlikely hit, immediately becoming the subject of an international news story.

The furore centred around the fact the band kept their identity hidden from the media and featured a stand-in group of teenage musicians in the video.

The story has now inspired a film entitled Vinyl, starring Phil Daniels and Keith Allen. The Bournemouth show will feature The Alarm taking to the stage after a short ‘Vinyl’ trailer to perform songs that feature in the movie alongside a host of the band’s classic hits such as Sixty Eight Guns, Rain In The Summertime and the autobiographical Spirit Of ’76.

“On August 18th 1979, I travelled to London to see Phil Daniels star in Quadrophenia at a cinema on Oxford Street and then took the tube to Wembley to see The Who perform the soundtrack live,” says Mike Peters.

“‘Vinyl’ provides Alarm and film fans with a similar opportunity to see the movie and then hear the soundtrack at the same time.

“It’s going to be an amazing and one-off experience that will hopefully unite fans of cinema and rock and roll in an interesting way.”

Mike was diagnosed with cancer (Non Hodgkins Lymphoma) a few years ago which, after treatment, was put into remission. He has recently been given the all clear and is back to full health.

During his chemo, he put together the Love, Hope Strength charity which raises money and awareness for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.
