CELEBRATIONS will take place all over Dorset and the New Forest next month for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

A special four-day weekend will be held between Thursday, June 2, and Sunday, June 5, to mark the occasion.

The countdown is now on and street parties and public events will be held with pubs allowed to extend their opening hours from 11pm to 1am so people can celebrate.

Here’s everything you need to know about what’s happening, when and where.

Street parties

Bournemouth Echo:

Hundreds of applications for street parties have been submitted across the BCP Council and Dorset Council areas.

An update from BCP Council last month said more than 250 street parties were being planned across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole with a final push to get to 300.

In the wider Dorset area, more than 100 applications had been submitted.

However, if you want to hold a street party which involves a road closure it’s now too late to apply as the deadline for applications closed on April 22.

If you don’t need to close the road, you can run a ‘Street Meet’ – if you live in a cul de sac, councils are generally happy for this to go ahead without permission.

Otherwise, use driveways, parking areas and front gardens – none of these will require council permission but you must ensure you don’t obstruct pavements.

Another option is a ‘neighbour’s picnic’, which can be held in the local park, the only caveat is that you cannot have music or a barbecue.

On the matter of street party insurance, A Plan Insurance says: "As a Platinum Jubilee Street Party is a one-off event, you won’t need a risk assessment or licence for the consumption of alcohol. That doesn’t mean that there is no risk.

"We would encourage anyone organising a Jubilee party to have street party insurance cover in place."
