MORE than 250 street parties are being planned across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Residents planning a party in their street now have less than one week left to apply for a temporary road closure in the BCP Council area.

The Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend takes place takes place between Thursday, June 2 and Sunday, June 5.

Cllr Beverley Dunlop, portfolio holder for culture and vibrant Places, said: “I’m delighted that more than 250 street parties are already being planned across the BCP area to mark this historic occasion. Let’s make it 300.

“Guidance is available on our website for anyone who is thinking about planning a street party but doesn't know where to start. This is an opportunity to come together with friends and neighbours and have a party. Let’s have some fun.”

Residents are being encouraged to organise a street party for their community on Sunday, June 5, when The Big Jubilee Lunch with applications free of charge. Other events as part of the occasion include a beacon lighting on Thursday, June 2.

All road closure applications must be submitted by Friday, April 22. Any application received after this date will not be processed.

Bus routes cannot be considered for closure.
