I’D like to say how lucky we are in Dorset to have so many marvellous art clubs.

They all vary: Some meet once or twice a week, others once a month. But they are all very friendly and supportive and welcome men, women, all ages and abilities.

Art is one of the most therapeutic and absorbing hobbies there is and is never boring as there I so much beauty to observe and techniques to learn. They say that drawing and painting is the closest thing to meditation; it also gives so much pleasure to others as well as themselves.

With the encouragement of other members, artists can gain a great deal of confidence and a wonderful sense of achievement and worth.

I belong to two clubs. They are quiet different but are both excellent in their own way.

One is Leisure Painters, who meet two days a week at the Lighthouse and the other Canford Heath Art Society, who meet on the fourth Thursday evening each month, at Canford Heath library.

At the moment members in both clubs are exhibiting their paintings along with six other clubs, including photography and sculpture, on the first floor at the Lighthouse. This is our third year. Made in Poole 3.

Please come and look around.

Canford Heath Art Society is holding an exhibition of paintings at Canford Heath library, from Friday October 26 until Thursday November 22, 7-9pm. New members are always welcome.
