THE urge to write about the upsetting news that Sandacres in Sandbanks is closed is reason enough but to read that in its place there will be another Tesco is ridiculous.

For many, Sandacres wasn’t just a pub, it was society of like minded people.

The walls hold so many fond memories for the patrons who used it, from the windsurfers, kite surfers, cyclists, sun worshippers, holiday makers and generally laid back people.

Personally I have been going there since the early 90s, and to me it was a bar filled with laughter.

I even had the pleasure of working there for a few evenings. It is a great loss to the area and I am sure if more people were aware that closing was on the cards then they would have done all they could to keep it open.

However to read that Tesco have jumped in and acquired the premises so that they can open yet another of their stores comes as quite a shock.

Does Sandbanks need a Tesco in this prime location when there is already a Tesco and Co-op down the road in Lilliput?

Must our fantastic views be ruined by yet another neon Tesco sign on the horizon and can no one think of anything better to be placed in this location that can retain the appearance of the area rather than plunking another money grabbing mini supermarket here?

Come on people, let’s leave this area how it is and not spoil it when there is no need to.

On a more practical note, the traffic around the area in the summer is congested at the best of times. With the addition of a Tesco store this would only add to the mayhem, not to mention the regular deliveries.

Parking would be a huge issue and is there really enough space for such a shop of this nature in this location.
