CONSIDERABLE unease has been expressed concerning the visual impact of the Navitus Bay Windfarm .

As reported by the Daily Echo this concern has been conveyed by some of our local MPs namely Conor Burns, Chris Chope, Richard Drax and Tobias Ellwood.

However, this concern is largely unnecessary.

The problem is that it is largely fuelled by photo montage images of the proposed windfarm.

The great difficulty with such photo montages is that they do not come with instructions as to the distance from which they should be viewed.

People tend to peer at them from close up when often they should be viewed from quite far away.

This gives a much exaggerated idea of the level of visual impact.

In order to bring greater understanding of the impact of the windfarm, Poole Agenda 21 has produced simple models of wind turbines.

These models are two inches high which should be viewed from a distance of about 11 feet.

This is the correct scale for a 170m-high turbine viewed from 11 kilometres.

It is of course possible to see these models but within the total visual panoply they are quite small, as will be the windfarm itself.

We have sent versions of these models to each of the above MPs.

We hope that this will reassure the population that visual impact is not a significant problem.
