IT is such a shame that the Saturday night at the Boscombe Community Fair had to come to such untimely end.

It is my sincere hope that the youth who allegedly thought that it would be fun to let off the fire extinguisher in the marquee understands the consequences.

It was very ill-thought out, not only putting people’s health at risk, but also abruptly ending such a fantastic evening for so many people on such a note.

I have been attending the Community Fair for about eight years now and always had a great time, coming away with the sense of people working positively, towards engaging and sustaining creative actions in my own local community, and appreciation for all our local artists and the talent we have here.

This year I was pleased to see more people attending, and I hope this event will continue on to bigger and even better things.

It is always encouraging to see the efforts the organisers make and the time they give to promoting a sense of community in this area.

It is in this area then I would like to particularly praise them this year. I was in the middle of the marquee and, although it took me along time to stop coughing and crying afterwards, I could not fault the calm way all the stewards and security calmly dealt with the situation, efficiently evacuating lots of very confused folk and in no way could it be referred to as “mayhem”.

So let’s not let this kind of idiotic behaviour detract from all the positive things the community fair gives to Boscombe. In fact, let’s big it up and support the ideals it tries to promote.

Bournemouth council do not have concerns, the organisers do a very good job of it – long may it continue to grow.

I for one am looking forwards to seeing all of Subgiant’s set in 2013!
