It would appear that when our council makes a decision on something affecting the town – whether it’s right or wrong in the eyes of the inhabitants of the town – they will go ahead and do it.

I refer to the playground scheme at Queen’s Park. After a strong petition being put forward, on the wrong placement of a playground in the car park, the scheme is to go ahead. Not only will a quarter of the area be lost but during the build, at least half the parking will be affected by contractors.

Surely a better position would have been on the grassed area above the car park, so that, amongst other things, surface water could be drained off into the car park.

In your report in last week’s Echo, one of the councillors stated that the golf course was in fact, a park.

Now to my way of thinking, a park does not have 18 tee boxes, 18 fairways and 18 greens with flags in them. I have lived in Bournemouth since 1967 and golf has always been played there, including some very prestigious golf tournaments.

I remember various parks around the town having signs that said that golf clubs and balls should not be used in those parks. Queens Park and Meyrick Park have facilities that allow members of the public to be able to hit a golf ball.

Footpaths allow people to cross the golf course, but surely to walk around the course with children or a dog is asking for trouble.

Golf balls and walkers do not mix!
