THE debate concerning the visual impact of the Navitus Bay wind farm off the Dorset coast go from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Margaret Perrins treats us to a second-hand account from her “friends who say they could only vaguely see the ones off North Wales” (Letters, May 12).

This should be greatly reassuring. The Navitus Bay site (contrary to the comment of Margaret Perrins) is almost twice the distance offshore than either of the two present wind farms off North Wales (Rhyl Flats 5 miles, North Hoyle 4.7 miles, Navitus Bay 8.2 miles off Peveril Point, 10.2 miles from Bournemouth Pier) so its visual impact will be even more “vague”.

And beyond the reduced “aerial perspective”, a further factor greatly reducing the Navitus Bay visual impact is that, unlike these North Wales wind farms, Navitus Bay is off our south coast and thus it will be mainly presenting its shady side to shore, not its sunny side.
