RICHARD Grant of Burley seems to be have misunderstood local taxation (‘Bit of a cheek as he’s paying their wages’, Have Your Say, May 4). Whilst Dave Wells may own a great deal of property in Bournemouth, council tax is a personal liability and therefore the responsibility of the occupant not the landlord.
Since Mr Wells lives in Sandbanks his council tax will be payable to the Borough of Poole.
Similarly, as a Burley resident, Mr Grant will pay his council tax to New Forest District Council.
Whilst both Mr Wells and Mr Grant are local in the broader sense of the word they are not with regard to their local tax contributions to Bournemouth.
