IN REPLY to Alan Gerault’s recent letter, I know that the vast majority of people I meet are delighted that this council is taking firm and decisive action to improve our town for visitors and residents alike.

Our decision to rid ourselves of the much-derided Waterfront (Imax) building, is applauded from all quarters.

This eyesore, voted nationally as the most hated building in England, will be replaced by an excellent outdoor performance space, something we have lacked for this town.

With our excellent Dance Centre in the Pavilion and the recently opened Arts University performance centre, also in the Pavilion, this outdoor arena will be a fantastic addition to Bournemouth’s burgeoning cultural scene and will be operated in partnership with BH Live and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and others.

Mr Gerault cites the Kinson Hub as a waste of money – he obviously hasn’t spoken to the many satisfied users of this innovative building, housing a state of the art library and many community facilities, before dismissing it’s real value.

And just in case he is in any doubt, the unusually designed gates suggested for the entrance to King’s Park were proposed by AFC Bournemouth and have yet to come before the Council’s Planning Board.

As a member of this Council for more than 12 years, I can assure Mr Gerault and all your readers that I have never felt so confident that the direction this Council is going in is absolutely right for Bournemouth and will ensure our prosperity for many years to come.
