REFERENCE the letter printed on April 18 regarding police responses, no one doubts the difficult and thankless task they face on a daily basis.

However, the recent incident of gate-crashing partygoers highlights a situation that seems to occur on a regular basis, whereby a large number of misbehaving participants results in only a handful of arrests.

In this instance, there is no way that only two of the youngsters involved were worthy of action, but the cynical opinion would be that token arrests confirm the police presence and they therefore cannot be accused of ignoring complaints.

It is unlikely that we will hear of any more developments in this specific case, but the one certainty is that there is absolutely no deterrent to any future misbehaviour.
