How dare Robert Readman be so derogatory towards our Dorset and national police, the finest in the world. (Letters, February 3).

Does he not realise their numbers have been cut to a minimum, they have taken a pay cut in real terms and have to pay far more toward their pension, and unlike most workers, are not allowed to strike?

And then they go out on a call or stop someone, they never know what they might come face to face with and they are subjected to a lot of verbal and sometimes physical abuse.

I think you would not and could not do their job Mr Readman.
