I REFER to the article regarding the emergency preservation order put in place by Bournemouth Borough Council to prevent Oakmead College of Technology from felling more trees on their site (Echo, February 21).
There is nothing in the report to state whether the council actually attempted to establish whether trees would be replaced by the school.
Why on earth Bournemouth Borough Council feels it necessary to obtain such an order when Oakmead have actually adhered to legislation regarding the felling of the trees is beyond me.
Surely, this sort of issue should have been looked in to when the school made their planning application to the council to build on the site.
As the parent of a student at Oakmead I am outraged that the preservation of a small number of trees has been given a higher priority than the need to provide a state of the art education centre and additional volleyball centre.
Oakmead provides education for one of Bournemouth’s more deprived areas.
We are again putting the egos and views of councillors above the needs of the next generation.
