POOLE council will be charging for garden refuse in March, which was not the reason the EU instructed all member countries to reduce landfill sites, it was to reduce methane gas.

Our government allowed councils to charge principally to reduce volume, but Poole are not charging for the environment, they are doing it to save money, not the reason it was intended.

Now separate garden refuse is collected from only half the borough, but in March when they charge they will have to travel every street in the borough.

In my estimation only 30 per cent of households will pay for a bin, therefore it will be double the distance, twice the cost and twice the carbon pollution – not good for the environment.

Those with no bin will have to travel in their cars to the waste depot with all their garden waste, again more carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere, not exactly what the EU intended.

Solution – garden refuse is a natural valuable commodity so treasure it, collect, separate and sell or compost and sell.

Compost is black gold dust.

The proof, is in our garden. A previous sand pit, raised with Purbeck stone, has been filled in over 30 years with tons of compost. The result is a beautiful garden, The most worked part of the garden, compost pits.
