MRS Walker asks (Letters, January 30) for some enlightenment over St Clement’s School.

The history of St Clement’s goes back to 1871 when a small day school was opened by a Miss Emma Mordaunt. Enlargement and new school buildings resulted in St Clement’s Mixed School being opened in 1880, with an infants section following two years later.

When the new Boscombe Senior School opened in January 1940, the separate infants were joined with the Mixed School and the seniors were sent to the new Senior School, as Mrs Walker states.

Moving onto 1965, work started on the adaptation of Boscombe Senior School to Kings Park Schools.

In our collection at Bournemouth Library, we have a very useful book by JA Young entitled Education in Bournemouth 1903 to 1945, which outlines in more detail some of the changes in schooling in our town.

Mrs Walker is very welcome to consult this book, copies of which will be found in most of Bournemouth’s libraries.
