REGARDING the recent publication in the Daily Echo concerning St Aldhelm’s Academy, I feel it was very wrong that this name was given to them in the first place as many people are confusing this with St Aldhelm’s C of E combined primary school.

I have great interest in the latter as my family have attended St Aldhelms School since the late 1800s when it was merely one room, before being built in the lower Bournemouth Road, where it stayed until the new school was built in Winston Avenue.

My family have attended St Aldhelms throughout, up until last year when my youngest grandchild left.

It has always been an excellent school in every way, with very good Ofsted reports and it is a great shame that it is now being confused with St Aldhelm’s Academy.

I think the academy should have its name changed, as it has not previously had any connection with the church, whereas St Aldhelm’s C of E has always been very involved with St Aldhelm’s Church, the scout and guide movements and so on, and many parents are much involved with the church.

Does this apply with St Aldhelm’s Academy? Perhaps your readers will comment further.
