SUNDAY, January 22: we wake up to the news on the TV that a six-year-old girl has been severely savaged by an uncontrollable dog.

Perhaps not locally, but we did read recently in the local paper about a local woman’s small dog being savaged and killed by a vicious dog that the owner was unable to control.

This dog is evidently dangerous and could possibly turn on a small child, a toddler or even a baby.

I understand this summer on most of Sandbank’s beaches, dogs are permitted to run and chase around freely; one wonders if owners are going to bother to supervise their dogs, or clear up the mess.

May I suggest parents with babies and young children visiting Sandbanks this coming summer keep a very close eye on them.

Last year, several times, early on a Sunday morning I visited Sandbanks main beach (dogs not permitted) only to find many dog owners exercising their dogs, and brushing sand over the mess their dogs were making. This means later in the day, children and any other people could step into it.

I say it’s time stricter controls were imposed on dog owners, particularly this summer on the beaches.
