WHY IS it with failing eyesight I cannot rely on a light bulb giving the illumination it states on the box?

The old filament bulbs (EU restricted), when they said 100w we could rely on 100w light.

Now with the compact florescent energy saving bulb we are forced to buy, they first give an equivalent light of 85w then warm up to a maximum 90w, never reaching 100w as it says on the box. Not good for our poorly eyes.

I know it says lumens in small print (1200) but people buy it as 100w when it isn’t 100w light.

Now Ever Ready have brought out a halogen bulb, the old fashioned original shape that says it is a 100w dimmable, but gives out a light equivalent to 150w, in small print 2090 lumens.

Still a bit expensive at £2.49 and less energy saving, but what the heck, I can at least read with it.

One is a 100w but only 1020 lumens and the other 100w but 2090 lumens.

The EU are so dogmatic on energy saving and they are lying to us with regards to the wattage reading. It has no relation to the light given, especially with ‘Joules law’. With reduced resistance they would never come up to the wattage stated.

Stop fooling us, drop the wattage and let people know what light it gives off with lumens. What’s the point of saving energy if we are losing our eyesight?
