I WAS interested in the recent article regarding changes in the heating allowance.
It is very laudable that donations are being made by the wealthier, who are receiving the allowance, but the responsibility lies with the government who have cut all the allowances for those entitled to it, by £50 per person.
For example husband and wife, both over 80, last year received £200 each, but this year it is £150, a reduction of £100.
Obviously this will make little difference to the more affluent, but there are a considerable number of over 80’s who are on the breadline.
It is ironic that MPs who constantly make noises in support of the elderly, have agreed to this while constantly seeking increases in their allowance and generally getting them!
