THE £100million proposed plan for the Winter Gardens, if agreed, would be the final nail in the coffin for this area of green open space at the heart of Bournemouth’s two hundred year old history.

We have already seen the deceptive destruction of our multi-purpose concert hall needing no sounding boards to boost its perfect acoustics!

There remains a tree lined area of gently rising ground leading up to the site of the original Winter Gardens ‘temple of music’ that cradled the birth of our famous symphony orchestra.

It is still a haven of peace just yards away from the busy hub of the town.

And it is a place to reflect on all of the famous composers, musicians and entertainers who came here and brought so much pleasure to townspeople and visitors alike.

This historic green area of the town must remain untouched and freed from commercial development until wiser ‘councils’ prevail and can restore to us the cultural and arts centre we were promised.
