I WAS delighted to see on ‘Echo Comments’ that my heartfelt ambition for our fabulous new Twin Sails Bridge, given in my presentation at the West Quay planning meeting on Wednesday November 2, was so accurately echoed: “the development to its shame would hide our iconic Twin Sails Bridge”… it needs to be seen in all its glory, that is what we have paid for.”
It is vital that any development for West Quay be something that my local residents feel is acceptable in this part of the town.
This was proven in the West Quay application being refused as it was not in keeping with the maritime character of Poole Town amongst other reasons. I am bitterly disappointed that the developers did not work more closely with the community to deliver a real landmark development that would have been a lasting source of pride for Poole, with perhaps an historic visitor attraction such as Lord Baden Powell Museum celebrating the birthplace of the International Scout movement.
We have so much history to celebrate in Poole and developers must understand this in any regeneration project.
We can combine the past and the future but in a seamless sensitive way that Poole people will be proud to live alongside.
CLLR CAROL EVANS, Poole Town Ward Councillor
