I READ that Poole Council are taking delivery of large quantities of grit to top up existing stocks in preparation for winter snow.

Wonderful news and to “be prepared” as Baden-Powell said, is admirable.

Many residents will once again “be prepared” to struggle to walk on untreated paths and drive erratically on polished side roads to reach a salted main road.

Having such a vast reserve left over from last year just highlights how ineffective the distribution of the resources was.

If the council’s refuse lorries cannot access the roads, and the numerous teams of sweepers and gardeners are unable to work, give ‘em wellies and a shovel and get some colour in their cheeks.

Hark! Do I hear the health and safety tribe shouting “No chance”.
