DURING the month of April we walked along the promenade from Shore Road, Sandbanks, to Bournemouth Pier and we were amazed at the speed at which some of the cyclists were weaving in and out of the people walking along the promenade.

Along the way we sat down on a seat next to an elderly lady on holiday from Nottingham who expressed her concern about the conduct of the cyclists.

On another occasion we were walking through the gardens towards Coy Pond when we observed four young cyclists preparing to cycle along a designated no cycling path and when this was pointed out to them they just ignored us and cycled off onto the grassed area and through the flower bed and continued to cycle alongside the stream.

So with the likelihood of cyclists ignoring regulations both on the promenade and in the gardens it is quite possible that a child or adult could be badly injured or even killed and this would, no doubt, make a news story for the media and could have a devastating effect on the tourism trade and in particular on families wishing to come here for a holiday.

So I appeal to Bournemouth council to take action before some serious accident occurs, but please don’t suggest a white line down the middle of the promenade as it is quite crowded as it is at times and young children do not know any better.
