IN her letter (April 1) regarding the closure of Fourways Day Centre, Mrs Williams omits to inform readers that nine years ago a previous Poole administration intended to shut down completely the facilities without offering alternative provision for clients.

The present administration overturned this plan and for the past eight years has worked tirelessly to find ways and means of keeping Fourways open whilst facing many circumstances beyond their control.

It is disappointing that Mrs Williams has chosen to criticise two councillors for their handling of this matter when they have done everything possible to accommodate the clients.

The remodelled Sea View centre will give all Fourways users a 21st century facility of which Poole should be proud.

I, too, am a volunteer at the Day Centre and having assisted its talented staff in singing, music, drama, discussion, speech and communication groups over the past seventeen years.

I know the clients have been kept well-informed throughout.

They are fully aware the decision has not been taken lightly and that it is occasioned as a result of the current state of the nation’s finances.
