RE Keep The Vulcan Flying: Perhaps your correspondent, Mr Harris, (Letters March 31) would also like the Spitfire and last remaining airworthy Lancaster to be confined to the ground too?

After all, let’s not be reminded about our innovative and pioneering aviation history nor be proud of our achievements.

Concorde was grounded long ahead of its time and another triumph in design, the Harrier has just retired.

Perhaps the National Lottery which seems to give to the most obscure and ludicrous causes should stump up the running costs to keep the Vulcan airborne every year or this government form the obscene amount it derives from the duty on fuel which is bleeding us to death. The running costs of the Vulcan are miniscule compared to the waste by government and councils. Or perhaps MPs could donate from their expenses?

Perhaps Mr Harris just hates aircraft and is one of the happy complainers about the (laughable) level of aircraft movements at Bournemouth?

Keep her flying!!
