S MUNSTER enquires about Mrs Louie Dingwall (Letters March 7). She trained three winners on the Flat in France: 1969: Treason Trial, T Young – Cagnes-Sur-Mer.

Treason Trial, T Young – Cagnes-Sur-Mer.

1970: Friar Tuck, G Old - Cagnes-Sur-Mer.

As for Pink Stripes, that won five flat races: 1951: (4/1) R Sheather, Salisbury.

(3/1) W T Evans, Hamilton.

1952: (4/1) D Greening, Lewis.

(100/6) J Lindley, Birmingham.

1955: (8/1) D Greening, Leicester.

And three jumps races (All trained by G Neville): 1957-58: (100/8) J Foster, Newton Abbott.

(100/7) J Foster, Newton Abbott.

1959-60: (20/1) G Nicholls, Hereford.

Perhaps though her greatest training feat was with Olympic Boy. She was sent the horse by William Hill of the bookmaking chain.

The horse had been bred at Hill’s stud in Ireland and on boarding a flight to England reared up and struck his head with such force that he was left in a semi-concious state and lost his eyesight.

Mrs Dingwall, nursed him back to health and regained his sight. It went on then to win four flat races in 1967/68. Mrs Dingwall trained 72 winners under both codes.
