I HAVE heard that some non-believers (probably younger folk) described their religion as “Jedi” in the last census, while others put “atheist” or “agnostic”, and that the mechanised processing method of collating census returns caused them to be listed among “other faiths”.

Asking “What is your religion?” instead of first asking “Have you any religious belief?” is a fault in the design of the census.
