With the present financial constraint, I am very puzzled how DCC is justifying its expenditure.
It is closing libraries, losing jobs, and cutting back on services but is still proposing to damage the viability of Christchurch High Street by closing Kelly’s Kitchen.
The present library must have been adequate for use for many years, although perhaps below standards.
The present premises could surely continue in its present manner until the financial situation improves, particularly as library users are generally falling.
This would leave the two and a half million pounds available to save a number of other libraries for some years.
If Kelly’s Kitchen was allowed to continue for a few years, the income from the rent could surely maintain the safety patrols at a number of schools.
Furthermore it would give the council time to reconsider the government edict on maintaining the viability of the High Street.
