I NOTICED this week that the speed limit on Dorset Way has been reduced from 70mph to 50mph. I also noticed that not many people are sticking to this limit and no doubt revenue-raising cameras will soon be installed.

Surely speed limits should be reasonable and realistic. There may be a case for a reduction near the Oakdale slip-road and perhaps lowering the limit for the whole of Dorset Way may be appropriate.

However, with modern cars safer than ever, I cannot see why the speed limit on this good stretch of dual carriageway should be lower than that of a country lane.
