AS a Hamworthy Ward councillor and resident, I was horrified when recently I obtained a draft plan for Poole Harbour Commissioners’ proposals for the modification and extension of Poole Yacht Club, providing more than 1,000 new yacht berths, new road, slipway and private beach.

The proposal extends the new marina out as far as the Wareham Channel and offshore half the length in front of Hawmorthy Park.

Councillors consider that the new marina would be some two to three times larger than the existing Dolphin Quays, be overbearing and have a huge environmental impact on the SSSI status of Hamworthy Park.

I appreciate that businesses must be viable in difficult trading times, but the extent of this draft proposal is totally unacceptable. Any further formal plans brought forward by PHC shall require extensive consultation and public enquiry.
