With reference to James Morton’s article in the Daily Echo, January 15th. It is accepted (reluctantly) that both national and local government make mistakes.

However, what really matters is that these mistakes are put right.

The £100,000 boom permanently constructed across Poole‘s major swimming pool is a case where the council has permitted outside influences to override the wishes of community tax-payers to allow this non-sensible fiasco to take place.

Of course, the pool should meet the needs of the young, the old and the handicapped and not only those wishing to enter competitive events. If a barrier was essential to meet all of these needs, it is not rocket-science to have designed one that would be mobile and moved when not required.

I am assuming that the funds have been allocated by Poole council and have not been donated. What is now important is that Poole council take urgent action to investigate how this problem has come about and not permit last-minute “tinkering” to eliminate this situation.

Perhaps the funds could have been spent updating toilets, dressing rooms and water temperatures about which these have been constant complaints, to say nothing of the decades old problem of flooding, one hundred yards away in the entrance to Poole Park!
