I HAVE just finished reading today’s Daily Echo (Monday January 17th).
On page nine there is an article about library closures, severe cut backs in library contents and reductions in staff.
On page 16 there is an article about an extension to Christchurch library, which will close a business and cause loss of jobs.
DCC states it has money for the expansion of Christchurch Library (presumably ring fenced), but where does it intend to find the money to fill it and staff it. This cannot have been ring fenced. Redeployment, moving contents of closing libraries, shifting costs from A to B – where are the savings?
I am confused and angry at DCC’s cavalier attitude to spending. If I lived in Corfe Castle or West Moors I would be furious.
